Pain management service

Primary Care Pain Support Service

We are pleased to offer our patients access to the Primary Care Pain Support Service, a holistic, person-centred service designed to help individuals living with persistent (chronic) pain.

What is the Pain Support Service?

This service supports patients who experience ongoing pain that has lasted for more than three months. Rather than focusing solely on medication or medical procedures, it takes a broader approach — addressing physical, emotional, and social factors that influence how pain is experienced and managed.
The aim is to help you improve your quality of life, confidence, and independence while learning new ways to manage your pain day-to-day.

How the Service Works

Patients referred to the service will work with a team of trained Pain Support Practitioners, who offer:

  • One-to-one support tailored to your goals
  • Guidance on self-management techniques
  • Support with improving movement, sleep, and wellbeing
  • Signposting to local resources or community groups
  • Practical strategies for managing flare-ups or reducing reliance on medication

This is not a replacement for medical care, but a valuable addition to help you better understand and live well with pain.

Who is it for?

This service is ideal for people:

  • Living with long-term musculoskeletal pain
  • Feeling that pain is affecting their mood, sleep, relationships, or work
  • Looking for ways to regain control and feel more confident managing their symptoms

How to Access the Service

Speak to your GP, nurse, or health professional during your appointment. They can refer you directly into the service if it’s right for you.
